The idea to establish a Rowing club came from understanding the significance of value this kind of activity can give to a local people and community. Being remote from biggest cities of England we have discovered how much more could be done in our area for people to benefit from rowing. It might be we are the wildest rowing club in England where only thing that matters- joy of rowing and achieving together in safe and comfortable environment.
Organization
In a progress still our structure as organisation. We would love to see you shaping club with us for it to thrive in a future. Club is run by club founders, very few volunteers and members. Our constitution, safety policies and procedures let us successfully carry out sessions following British Rowing (governing body) guides and best practices. We are rowing regularly on the river Parrett from November 2021, open to public from April 2022. We are affiliated with British Rowing form September 2023, participating in local races from very date of affiliation and feeling very proud to have some winners already. We have all we need for rowing to thrive- enthusiastic people, inclusive culture, great knowledge, wonderful environment and all the challenges to develop.
Environment
We have settled in outskirts of town in Langport, close to conservation area. It's an attraction point for diverse community to enjoy rowing, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing, birdwatching and exploring scenes of countryside. We are proud being able to make a wonderful partnership with nature- we actively maintaining wildlife, are contributing native ecosystems, protecting area from invasive species. We are family and pet friendly club- big smiles, positive attitude, inclusive adequate behaviours are highly appreciated and welcome. Boatyard and pontoon are available to use for our members out of training hours- you are welcome to bring your family, relatives and friends. We have been granted permission to build the boat house recently, new address has been issued for facilities and private car park to be. We do look forward for the days when our constant activities and with nature merging facilities are the great examples of most sustainable, most educating and awareness rising rowing club in country.
River Parrett
What a wonderful river stretch we have here in Langport for learn to row and develop with the least stress for ourselves and impact on a nature- River Parrett is narrow and has accessible footpath along the stretch. It ensures safety and effective coaching with the least aids and extra assets. It requires to look around often and practice to get great steering/communicating well with the crew skills.
Weather
We are feeling very lucky to have an opportunity to row regularly in Somerset and compete all year round in England. We do believe there is no bad weather- there is a smart preparation and opportunities for experiences. We are here for you to share what works well in different weather conditions. Very few sessions in our area been moved to other day and time due to uncomfortable weather conditions in respect of experiences of rowers. Our boats are fast to practice in a floods, we know river well to choose the best parts of the river stretch for certain activities.
Other water users
We are sharing river with very few limited speed motor boats of local residents, we have about a mile of very busy river stretch with paddle boards, kayaks and swimmers in the summer close to Langport- as soon as we passed it (with the most friendly smiles on our faces with an apologies for disturbing their activities)- we are free to enjoy our full speed.
Safety
We are operating from private land, boats are stored on a different height racks and trailers- independent manual handling, launch and other rowing activities are viable after knowledge, experience and approvements are gained, certificates awarded.
Boats
We have basic set up of sliding seat inland waters racing rowing boats to cover all your needs for learning, rowing safe and comfortable. Few recreational rowing boats, kayaks and canoes available too for members and their relatives to use as part of our aim to maintain family friendly environment, inclusion and overall wellbeing. We are teaching and rowing regularly in a boats, which complies British rowing and World Rowing standards for racing boats- you'll get all the knowledge and practice how to row well in fastest man powered watercraft.
Sessions
Few years we are actively teaching and developing rowers accordingly to British Rowing standards. Our Learn to Row Course and programs to develop has been a success and seems a great experience for our members. We have a program of Learn To Row, program to Develop and structure of sessions itself based on personal aspirations. And when you think you are ready for more- we are here for you to support you. We believe there are infinite ways to learn and develop. We are able to adapt our programs to meet your personal goals. We would love to share with you more than 10 years of experience in rowing and racing locally, nationally and internationally.
We do use Spond to organize our sessions and communicate within the club- your details are added to app (Spond) after your enquiry to try rowing. In a group you can see posts, download promotional and educational material, accept/decline invitations to events/sessions, express your needs/raise the questions and get all the answers you need.
We are non profit organization, registered as Community Amateur Sports Club. All the contributions (subscriptions, donation, highly valued your time and help) are used to ensure safety and hygiene of equipment, fluent communication, deliverables of knowledge, flotilla upgrade, maintenance of environment, support disadvantaged, contribute British Rowing via membership and race fees. We do have subscriptions to row with us for a year, season, term, month and option just to come and row for those who can row already. Variety of payment options available for you to have a choice.
